The Veterinarian

Real Doctors Treat More Than One Species
Dr. Wild travels globally by request to provide high quality, gratis veterinary medicine, surgery, anaesthesia, tranquilisation/immobilisation, and imaging to wildlife animal rescues, NGO’s, and National Parks in need.
Lions, tigers, and bears. Oh, yes. And skinks, skunks, and squirrels, too. As a wildlife veterinarian, Dr. Wild is acquainted with the scope of medicine required to treat the diverse spectrum of animals in this world.
She completed her Bachelor of Science (B.S.) at Cornell University with a dual degree in Biology and Animal Science and continued onwards at Cornell University to acquire her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). Dr. Wild fulfilled her internship training at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Akron, Ohio, and then received her Masters of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Minnesota. She balances her Western medicine practices with Traditional Chinese Medicine in an effort to blend both methodologies. (In fact, she’s the first veterinary acupuncturist of elephants in the past 3,000 years).
Dr. Wild is a published genetics researcher (PLoS & JAVMA) and integrates her research background to screen zoonotic disease transmission amongst wildlife, domestic animals, and people. To help maintain a healthy planet, she monitors herd and individual health for rising epidemics.
Having been inspired by animals as a child, Dr. Gabby Wild is now herself a National Geographic Kids educator and author. Acclaimed for her role as “the veterinarian” on National Geographic Kid’s Animal Jam, the world’s largest online “playground” with 54 million players, she creates videos about conservation medicine.
When not in the wild, Gabby works as a Wildlife Health Program veterinary for the Wildlife Conservation Society at the Bronx Zoo and also serves as an Emergency Room doctor for our less wild furry friends, rides her horse, Bu (who’s been Gabby’s baby since Bu was a year old), and tries to cook. The cooking isn’t usually successful, but we aren’t all as perfect as Mary Poppins.
